Fast One Cake Smash Session | Race Car First Birthday Photography in San Diego

Some cake smash themes never go out of style, and race cars are always a favorite. For this special first birthday celebration, Mom shared her son's birthday invitation with us before the session, and we used it as the inspiration for designing a completely custom Fast One Mickey Mouse cake smash experience.

Classic Milestone Portraits

But first, One of the benefits of our Luxe Cake Smash Session, is the opportunity to capture a second look before the cake comes out.  Mom wanted classic white which let his personality shine through!

For this little guy, we created a set of timeless milestone portraits using soft natural tones and a bright, airy backdrop. Dressed in a simple textured romper, his sweet smiles and playful personality became the focus of every image.

These classic portraits provide families with timeless photographs that complement the themed images and never go out of style.  Sometimes the simplest portraits become the most treasured.

Fast One Cake Smash Fun

When it was time for cake, our birthday boy was ready to celebrate.

Surrounded by race track details and checkered flags, he explored his cake while showing off the adorable expressions that make first birthday sessions so memorable.

The race-themed setup created the perfect balance of fun and modern style, making it easy to capture a gallery full of personality and milestone moments.

Every first birthday tells a story, and this little racer was clearly enjoying the ride.

A Whale-Themed Splash Session with Custom 3D-Printed Props

The final portion of the Luxe Cake Smash experience was a whale-themed splash session.

Mom wanted to recreate the same bath setup that had been used for her older children, making it a meaningful tradition for their family. To bring the vision to life, we incorporated custom 3D-printed whales, coastal-inspired details, rolled towels, and soft blue accents to create a playful nautical environment.

The custom whale props added a unique touch that made the setup feel completely personalized.

Sometimes the Best Photos Aren't Perfect

One thing we loved about this session was Mom's realistic expectations.

She knew ahead of time that her little one probably wasn't going to love sitting in the tub. But because she wanted to continue the tradition she had established with her older children, the splash session was still an important part of the experience.

And sure enough, the bath wasn't his favorite part of the day.

But that's what makes the final image so special.

The single crying splash photo we captured tells the real story of his first birthday session. It's authentic, full of personality, and perfectly reflects this stage of life. Years from now, it's likely to be one of the images that brings the biggest smile to the family's face.

Not every memory has to be picture-perfect to be meaningful.
