A New Baby, Three Big Brothers & Mom’s Labubu Collection | Ramona Newborn Photographer

There are newborn sessions that are soft and simple, and then there are newborn sessions that manage to be soft, sentimental, playful, and completely personal all at once.

For this baby girl’s session at Studio 120 Photography in Ramona, we created a gallery filled with delicate florals, warm neutrals, timeless newborn portraits, family images, three very proud big brothers, and one particularly memorable personal touch: Mom’s Labubu collection.

Rather than making every image themed, we incorporated the collection into just a few special portraits. That gave the session something completely unique to this family while still leaving plenty of room for classic newborn images that will feel beautiful years from now.

Baby Girl & Her Labubu Collection

When Mom told me about her Labubu collection, it was immediately obvious that we needed to find a way to include it.

We created one overhead portrait with baby nestled peacefully in the center of the collection, surrounded by all the different colors and characters. Another setup featured a smaller group of favorites arranged around her, and then we created a custom framed composite that turned the collection into a gallery wall with baby as the centerpiece.

It’s exactly the kind of personal detail I love incorporating into newborn photography. Not every meaningful item has to become the theme of the entire session. Sometimes just a few carefully planned images are enough to capture a little piece of who the family is right now.

Three Big Brothers & Their Baby Sister

This little girl arrived with an instant security detail.

With three big brothers, sibling portraits were an important part of the session. We kept some of them sweet and timeless, with all four children together, and then had a little fun with a “Don’t mess with me” portrait that seemed particularly appropriate for the youngest child and only girl.

Sibling photos during a newborn session are about more than getting everyone to look at the camera. They document the beginning of a completely new relationship. These boys will never again be exactly the ages they were when they first became her big brothers.

And judging by these photos, she already has them pretty well organized.

Newborn Family Portraits

Newborn sessions are also one of those rare opportunities to photograph the whole family during a major transition.

Along with the sibling portraits, we created simple family images and individual photographs of baby with Mom and Dad. I love keeping these setups understated so that the relationships become the focus rather than the set itself.

The tiny baby in Dad’s arms, Mom holding her close, an older brother leaning in beside them, these are often the photographs that quietly become some of the most important images in the gallery.

Timeless Baby Portraits

After all of the family and sibling photographs, the rest of the session focused completely on baby.

We used a soft palette of blush pink, cream, ivory, sage green and warm neutrals, along with delicate lace, floral details and simple textures. Some portraits were styled and feminine, while others were intentionally minimal so that her tiny features, full head of dark hair, little hands and sleepy expressions could take center stage.

We even managed to catch a few awake moments, which always adds something special to a newborn gallery.

The result was a collection with plenty of variety without feeling disconnected: personalized portraits, sibling and family photographs, and the soft newborn images that preserve just how incredibly little she once was.
