A Sweet Baby Girl Newborn Session | San Diego Newborn Photographer

There is something especially sweet about welcoming a new baby into a family with older siblings. This little girl arrived with two very proud big brothers, and her newborn session was filled with family moments, soft florals, beautiful color, and plenty of tiny details.

We began with family and sibling portraits, keeping everything simple and neutral so the focus stayed exactly where it belonged: on this newly expanded family. Soft cream tones and classic styling created a timeless backdrop for photographs of baby with Mom, Dad, and her big brothers.

Big Brothers, Meet Baby Sister

Sibling photographs are always one of my favorite parts of a newborn session. These images capture such a specific moment in a family's story, when the newest member is still impossibly tiny and everyone is learning what life looks like together.

With two older brothers, this baby girl is already very well loved. From cuddling close for family portraits to a quiet kiss from her big brother, these are the kinds of photographs that become even more meaningful as the years pass.

Soft Pink, Lavender & Floral Newborn Portraits

For baby's individual portraits, we incorporated soft pinks and lavender along with delicate florals and layers of texture.

One of the things I love about designing newborn sessions is creating variety while still making the finished gallery feel cohesive. We used different wraps, headbands, flowers, baskets and textures to give each setup its own personality without overpowering baby.

From dusty pink roses and muted greenery to soft lavender wisteria, each setup had a feminine feel that was delicate rather than overly themed.

And, of course, we caught one of those perfectly timed newborn yawns. Sometimes babies contribute their own posing ideas.

A Little Something Unexpected

Not every baby girl setup has to be flowers and pastels.

We also created a rustic western-inspired portrait using warm wood tones, cowhide, hay bales, a tiny wagon wheel and a pink bandana. The combination of rugged western details with this tiny sleeping baby made it one of the most playful setups from her session.

I love including personal style and unexpected elements in newborn galleries. They help make each session feel completely different from the one before it.

Timeless Neutral Newborn Portraits

To balance the richer colors and styled setups, we also created several portraits using creams, ivory, natural wood and soft organic textures.

Neutral newborn photography has a beautiful simplicity to it. With fewer distractions, all of those tiny newborn details become the focus: eyelashes, little fingers and toes, wisps of dark hair, sleepy expressions and the way a newborn fits so perfectly curled into a basket.

The mix of styled portraits and simple neutral images gives families a gallery that feels varied now while still having plenty of photographs that will look beautiful hanging on their walls years from now.
