There is first time for everything, right?  Well here was one for me....a Doljabi!  What is that, you ask? 

Long has been the Korean tradition to celebrate a baby’s first birthday in the form of a grand ceremony, called Doljanchi (1st Birthday Party).  The primary purpose of the ceremony is to bless the child with a prosperous future and a healthy life ahead. The highlight of the ceremony is called the Doljabi.

Doljabi is a tradition where the child is placed in front of various items or objects (Usually 6 – 8 items). Then, the child is encouraged to grab one or two items from the set of objects where each choice represents a certain future of the child with respect to his or her career or a lifestyle. (https://www.doljabi.com/what-is-doljabi/)

Mom and Dad actually MADE the objects for their little one!  We set up a little table and let her at it!  Once she selected two items, we removed the table....she selected a computer mouse, representing technology and a golf ball representing sports and athletics.  The idea being a fun way to see if/how these things may be in her future!

After capturing that tradition, we did a cake smash for little Sylvia, she enjoyed that too!  We ended with a milk bath, but she had more fun playing outside the tub....so we went with it....I never try to force a session, I try to let the little one have fun and lead with what they want to do....this is their session after all with our goal being just to capture where they are at this amazing milestone!
