Tiny Details, Big Adventures | A Custom Newborn Session Full of Personality

Some newborn sessions tell a story with soft colors and cozy wraps. Others take a little unexpected detour... straight into the sewers of New York City with everyone's favorite pizza-loving heroes.

This sweet little guy was an absolute dream to photograph. From the moment he settled into his first pose, he slept peacefully through a variety of setups, giving us the opportunity to create a gallery filled with timeless portraits and a few unforgettable custom creations.

Timeless Portraits with a Personal Touch

We began with a collection of classic newborn portraits featuring warm neutral tones, soft wraps, and beautiful textures. Whether nestled into a cozy bowl with his favorite teddy bear, peacefully wrapped on a textured backdrop, or snuggled into a rustic bucket, every image focused on preserving just how tiny and perfect these first days truly are.

We also incorporated a western-inspired setup complete with a cowboy hat, denim overalls, and rustic props. It's a timeless look that adds just enough personality while keeping the focus on the newest little cowboy.

Throughout the session, the tiny crocheted teddy bear made several appearances, adding a sweet touch that emphasizes just how small newborns really are.

Bringing a Custom Idea to Life

Then came my favorite part of the session.

As someone who loves creating one-of-a-kind newborn props, I wanted to build something completely unique. I handcrafted the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles outfit specifically for this session and even designed and 3D printed the miniature katanas to perfectly match the costume.

Seeing everything come together was so much fun. Surrounded by pizza boxes in a New York alleyway, this little ninja looked ready to protect the city... after one more nap.

Creating custom pieces like this is one of my favorite parts of newborn photography because it allows families to celebrate favorite movies, sports teams, careers, hobbies, and lifelong interests in a way that's completely personal.

Handmade Memories

Many of the specialty props I use simply aren't available to purchase, so I enjoy designing and building them myself. Between sewing custom outfits, creating props, and using my 3D printer to produce miniature accessories, I'm able to bring ideas to life that are made specifically for each session.

Of course, every setup is planned with newborn safety as the highest priority. Babies are fully supported throughout each pose, and specialty images are created using safe posing techniques so parents can relax knowing their little one is always comfortable and secure.
