Some first birthdays deserve a little extra magic, and this Harry Potter™ inspired Luxe Cake Smash was the perfect way to celebrate one unforgettable first year.

From the moment this little wizard stepped into our studio, every detail transported us into a magical world. A custom Platform 9¾ inspired backdrop, vintage trunks, lanterns, Hedwig, and Hogwarts-inspired décor created the perfect setting for a birthday celebration filled with wonder. Paired with a custom cake and an adorable wizard outfit, this session felt like it had been pulled straight from the pages of a beloved storybook.

While the magical theme made this session unforgettable, one of our favorite parts of every Luxe Cake Smash is that it tells the complete story of your baby's first birthday, beginning with timeless milestone portraits before ending with the fun of the cake smash.

Timeless Milestone Portraits

Before the wizard robe came out and the frosting started flying, we captured a collection of simple milestone portraits using soft, neutral tones.

These portraits allow your child's personality to take center stage. Bright smiles, tiny fingers, chunky baby cheeks, and the excitement of a one-year-old discovering the world all become the focus without distractions. They create timeless artwork that complements any home and will never go out of style.

Including milestone portraits before the themed portion of the session gives families the best of both worlds: classic images they'll treasure forever alongside the customized birthday experience they've been dreaming about.

A Magical Cake Smash

Once portraits were finished, it was time for the real celebration.

Creating immersive sets is one of our favorite parts of designing Luxe Cake Smash sessions, and this Harry Potter™ inspired setup was filled with thoughtful details from beginning to end. We designed a custom Platform 9¾ inspired brick backdrop and layered the scene with vintage trunks, antique books, lanterns, Hedwig owls, wizard scarves, and Hogwarts-inspired accents to create the feeling of stepping into the wizarding world. A custom birthday cake decorated with magical symbols tied everything together, while a tiny wizard robe, Gryffindor-inspired tie, and round glasses completed the look.

Every prop was carefully selected and scaled specifically for a one-year-old so the scene felt immersive without ever distracting from the true star of the session.

Like many babies, our birthday boy approached his cake with a little curiosity before happily digging in. Those genuine reactions, playful expressions, and frosting-covered smiles are exactly what make cake smash sessions so much fun to photograph and even more fun for families to remember.
